My Story

On Sunday 6th April 2025, I will run the Brighton Marathon for the Charity : Action on Postpartum Psychosis (Here is the Link: https://www.app-network.org/

You can show your support by sharing  with family and  friends and donating, whether that be £1 or £100 every penny will make a difference.

For those who may not know me ...I am Becky. I am a part-time working Mum to three gorgeous girls. In May 2021 , at age 27, 4 weeks after welcoming my identical twin girls into the world, I was diagnosed with Post-Partum Psychosis. On that day I was completely overwhelmed after weeks of experiencing high anxiety, and PTSD symptoms, I was out of touch with reality...I was not able to function normally or take care of myself, let alone my family. It was undoubtedly the hardest time but with the right support and as expected, I was able to make a full recovery.

For me I was fortunate enough to be cared for in my own home and not separated from my girls, yet in many cases women are admitted to general psychiatric units without their babies due to the lack of knowledge and I want this to change.

In May 2023 I raised £3200. When I missed the cut off for the London Marathon, I took on the challenge of walking/running 43 miles from my hometown to what could have been my nearest Mother and Baby Unit. The support I received from sharing my story for the first time was incredible and has helped me continue on my mission to help new mums speak up and seek support.

Fast forward to now and I am on Part 2 of Finding Becky, The Brighton Marathon. Unlike my first challenge, this one comes with a time goal. I am not a natural runner, so the training has pushed me in a whole new way, through a new pair of running shoes and 11 weeks of very cold Sunday long runs!

I am so proud of what I have achieved in the last few years, but I couldn’t have done it without the support I had around me..

Thank you to my amazing Family and Friends, who helped me see the light when I could not ❤️

The Crisis team and Perinatal mental health team who supported my Family and me so I could be cared for at home 🏡

The redway runners community  💚

And Finally to my girls, you have always been and forever will be my motivation ❤️

How the money will help...

APP is a small charity, so every single donation they receive really does help to make a big difference and helps them to continue developing easy to understand information; operating life changing, life saving peer support services and enables them to be there for even more mums, babies and families affected by severe maternal mental illness. In the 2024 APP peer support survey, 49% of respondents said they might not be here today if they hadn't found APP.  It costs APP around £34 to reach out to and support a new mum diagnosed with PP. Your donation really can help save lives.

Why Finding Becky?

I was in and out of psychosis for roughly 1 week. It took 5 days for me to be seen at home by a consultant. During this time, my memory was all muddled up, from what I recall, reading, writing, counting and remembering things took a lot of effort. When I felt like I was struggling I would say ‘Just keep swimming just keep swimming’ like Finding Dory, I had to piece myself back together again.
